As Mike says. we had a good day today and to be honest , it could have been more. Vagif hammers his guy in 26 moves, Calum is really impressed with him.
Kirsty is finding things tough but there is a long way to go. Colin was always better but wasn't sure in a tricky endgame, takes a draw and moves on.
Andrew competely outplays opponent, winning a piece in 16 moves. Daniel was doing ok right up to the late middle game but his opponent had an edge throughout and converted.
Kai is material up but is faced with a pawn on the 7th and another closing in. He didn't like the look of it and offered a draw.
Liam was in the same boat, the same as yesterday but we felt he was winning when draw agreed.
Murad is really disappointed to have lost in a very close game, he will be back.
Jamie had an outstanding result and felt he had a slight edge throughout before drawing.
Sam is gutted, he is winning against an extremely strong player when he throws in a quick move and gets mated. He has been playing really well.
Anna Milton is taking over from Ali in the last to finish stakes! A good win today, her steady all round game is made for these events and coupled with a vastly improved endgame will steadily score points.

We managed to follow up yesterday`s results with another good day. Murad wins easily, he is determined to get back in the hunt asap. Colin makes slight error in opening but is in control and wins fairly comfortably. We can feel his confidence growing. Kirsty found things tough again. Vagif is totally unpredictable, you simply don´t know what he is going to do from one day to the next! He lost today. Liam won in an endgame where he had been ahead throughout, he has played consistently well. Andrew plays a really good game to beat a decent opponent. He has talent in abundance if he slows down and plays to his strengths. Daniel was hammering his very strong opponent before blundering. He is a very dangerous player and hopefully can get some good chalks in the days ahead. Jamie fought for a long time but his opponent was simply too good. Kai might have got lucky, he felt he was definitely lost but managed a threefold repetition. Sam lost after four hours, haven´t seen this one. Anna (Ali Roy) Milton knows how to build up everyone´s appetite for dinner! Four and a half hours to draw against a very strong girl who has been playing consistently v 2000 graded opponents, a very good result indeed.

I have been checking the draw for the first of the two rounds today and we have been dealt some very tough opponents which was expected as we have done so well the last couple of days. We will be trying our best.

Yesterday was nuts! Two games, one at 10am and the other at 5pm meant it was all hands on deck desperately trying to prep for our ties. We managed to hold it together pretty well despite the draw appearing at approx 3.50 for the second game. I guess every nation had similar problems. Four points in round five and five points in round six have kept the scores ticking along nicely. It´s a rest day today so a chance of a wee break and time to reflect on things so far.
Liam is playing very steadily and could easily have had more points.
Vagif is torture! He is such a talented wee guy but we are running out of ideas on how to get the best from him. He is much better than his bare score.
Kai is first up every morning ready to go. Consistent and focused, he is guaranteed to always score points.
Colin has been doing really well. He hasn´t had a great season but is showing some great stuff here against some good opponents. We are really pleased with his focus and attitude.
Murad has played terrific but has had some very good opponents. He played five hours for his draw yesterday which is an indication of his determination and commitment.
Kirsty has found things really tough but she has been improving every day and rightly got a draw and a win yesterday. She has been trying really hard and you can´t ask for anything more.
Anna has matured as a chess player over the last year. She is playing some good quality opponents and has done really well.
Andrew has fantastic ability but is difficult to catch right consistently. He needs to focus harder every day.
Jamie´s results are not reflecting his fantastic attitude and quality of his play. His determination has impressed me.
Daniel is another whose excellent play are not reflected in his results. This is a very high standard and Daniel has shown he can compete at this level.
Sam works non-stop! Deserves every point he gets and has been a great asset here.

Everyone enjoying themselves and looking forward to part two of this great event. Our hotel could not be nicer with a lovely restaurant, attentive polite staff and a simply stunning location. We are off for a tour round Maribor today which should be great fun.

We had a lovely day off yesterday. First, we took the cable car to the top of the mountain (David Deary's face changed colour so many times!) and took some photos and a walk round. Next, we headed into Maribor itself where we boarded a wee tourist train that took you round the city. It was great fun and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
Round 7 today and draw wise, it's certainly the toughest we have had since day 1. Normally we can look down the draw and say, X and Y have a decent chance of a full point but not today I'm afraid. We know we will all need to be at our best to keep our nice wee run going.

Three and a half points yesterday which was about right considering the standard of opponents we faced. Highlights included Vagif returning to his best to win easily. He is capable of picking up some more good points before the end. Low point was Anna being a rook up but running out of time against a good opponent.
This round will be remembered by me for a quite bizarre situation that occurred during Liam's game. I am best writing about it at length in the arbiters jotter when time allows. Internet access here is ropey to say the least but David Deary is trying to get some games on here.
Today looks tough again and unfortunately Jamie and Andrew have been drawn against each other but we feel we are making progress every day.

Thanks Mike,

Everything is working together just fine but we could have had even more today if things had dropped right for us. Kirsty is in a solid controlled position moving forward when she makes her worst mistake of the tourney, losing a piece. She is capable of a point or two yet.
Liam has been playing great and his overall score is no reflection on his admirable consistent performance.
Daniel is much better with the white bits and needs to add a few strings to his opening repertoire.
Vagif must be the most underrated player in Scotland. He has been focused and determined the last few rounds and is a very serious talent. If he had got off to a better start, goodness knows what he may have achieved.
We are bound to have some tough pairings tomorrow but we will see.
